The problem

The payout never matches the register.

Shopify groups payouts by when card payments settle, not when the sale rang up. A weekend of sales arrives as one deposit. A card approved Friday lands in Tuesday's payout. Refunds, reserves, chargebacks and gift cards all move through the same number.

So every month someone does deposit reconciliation by hand, in a spreadsheet, to work out what this actually contains:

One deposit · Aug 29
$13,681.40
What's actually inside?
“It's like shuffling cards. Three days go into one deposit, and a day or two on either side keep shifting.”
Sole finance person, resort retail store, 2,000–10,000 orders a month
“I pull the reports every month and still end up about $600 out.”
Controller, Shopify Payments only, 1,500 orders a month
“We're running Excel pivot tables to work out what each deposit consists of, then ticking it off by hand.”
Accounting team, multi-store retailer, online and in-store
How it works

From Shopify deposit to journal summary in four steps.

  1. Connect your store

Install Recount from your Shopify admin. It pulls your full Shopify Payments payout history, as far back as you need.

    Recount does this
  2. See every payout broken down

Each payout is split into sales, refunds, shipping, taxes and fees, and tied to the cent.

    Recount does this
  3. See why it's off

Drill from the deposit to the order. Anything that doesn't tie is flagged with the reason, not just a red number.

    You review
  4. Hand off a journal summary

One balanced summary per payout, dated by sale. Enter it manually in QuickBooks or Xero, or hand it to your accountant.

    Ready every payout
Payout reconciliation, end to end

Match. Explain. Break down. Hand off.

Built for ecommerce accountants, bookkeepers and store owners who want every Shopify payout explained without spreadsheets.

Reconcile Shopify payouts down to the order.

  • One line per payout: amount, period covered, matched or needs attention
  • Split tenders shown as they happened: a $143 order paid $43 by card and $100 in cash
  • Payouts that straddle month-end are split by sale date, so June stays in June
  • Dates in your store's time zone

Month-end, handled

Dated by the sale. Tied to the deposit.

One payout, two months.

A payout covering June 29 to July 2 lands in July. Recount gives you a June summary and a July summary, each tied to the deposit that paid for it.

Built for the cases that break spreadsheets

The hard cases are the normal cases.

  • Multi-day and weekend payouts
  • Payments that settle on a later day
  • Store time zone vs settlement time
  • Reserves and holds
  • Chargebacks raised months later
  • Refunds and their fee treatment
  • Gift cards sold, redeemed and expired
  • Shop Cash and Shop Pay Installments
  • Multi-currency payouts
  • POS and online in one deposit
  • Orders edited after payout
  • Marketplace tax remitted by Shopify
What Recount doesn't do

Small on purpose.

  • No bank connection

Recount never logs into your bank. It works from your Shopify Payments payouts, and each summary ties to the deposit.

    No bank credentials to share
  • Never changes Shopify

Read-only access to payouts and orders. No customer data is stored.

Your store stays exactly as it is
  • No order-by-order sync

One summary per payout. Your books stay readable and nothing gets posted twice.

    Books that stay readable
  • Not a bookkeeper

It doesn't replace QuickBooks, Xero or your accountant. It gives them numbers that tie.

Works with the team you have

FAQ

Questions merchants asked us.

Does it post to QuickBooks or Xero?

Not directly. You get a journal summary for every payout with the amounts filled in, which you enter manually or hand to your accountant.

Why is my Shopify deposit different from my sales?

A payout is grouped by when payments settle, not when sales happen, and Shopify takes out fees, refunds, reserves and chargebacks before the money reaches your bank. Recount shows every one of those lines, so you can see exactly how your sales became that deposit.

How is this different from importing a payout CSV?

A raw payout CSV gives you hundreds of transaction rows to match by hand. Recount gives you one balanced journal summary per payout, and every line still traces back to the orders behind it.

Is the entry dated by the sale or by the deposit?

By the sale. A payout covering June 29 to July 2 produces a June entry and a July entry, each tied to the deposit that paid for it.

Does Recount connect to my bank?

No. Recount works from your Shopify Payments payouts. Each journal summary includes the bank line, so you can tick it against the deposit in your bank feed.

Is it safe to connect?

Recount is a Shopify-reviewed app from the team behind Report Pundit, used by more than 6,000 merchants. It reads payouts and orders, writes nothing to your store, and stores no customer data.
